“I filed my A-level exams so now I can’t get into university. I feel like such a failure; I’ll never get a degree now.”
INFORMAL LETTER: GIVING ADVICE
Dear Ann,
I’m sorry to hear about your problem and how you’re been feeling since you knew your final results. Here’s what I think the solution is and what you should do.
Firstly, I hope you get better soon. You should not to feel a failure; you know you’re a really good student. You’ve always passed all your exams at school and also at high school. The best advice I can give you is that you should talk with the university members asking them a chance to get into the degree you want. Maybe there’s a possibility to do a placement test in the faculty and passing it, they can allow you to enroll in the degree.
So, it would be a good idea if you start studying hard now. Then, visit the university and show them how much you know and try to convince your future teachers of your knowledge and abilities.
Let me know if my advice was of any help and what happens. I hope everything turns out fine.
Best wishes,
Marta.
FORMAL LETTER: ASKING FOR ADVICE
To whom it may concern,
I am writing in order to ask if you could help me with a problem of a friend of mine. Ann Smith has just failed all her A-level exams. Nevertheless, she actually is an extraordinary student who has been preparing herself consciously to obtain a place in your college.
Furthermore, I wonder whether there could be any opportunity to help Miss Smith for the purpose of obtaining a place in the degree that she had previously applied for. Moreover, it would be extremely grateful if you were able to permit her to do a placement test and granted her the wonderful opportunity of joining the following course.
Therefore, it would be really appreciated whether the university could consider this relevant issue. Accordingly, it is well-known that a solution is needed and it only depends on your kindness.
I look forward to receiving your advice and if it is possible, a solution on this subject as soon as possible.
Yours faithfully,
Marta Pomer Cañizares
